Is the Federal EV Tax Credit Ending?
Yes -- the Clean Vehicle Tax Credit is set to expire on September 30, 2025.1 This program makes it easier to go electric by saving up to $7,500 on qualifying vehicles, but only if you act soon. The deadline is approaching, so now is the time to take advantage of this limited-time tax benefit before it disappears for good.
Which Ford EVs Qualify for a Tax Credit?
Several new Ford electric vehicles in Sussex are eligible for federal tax incentives. Currently, certain trims of the Ford F-150 Lightning -- including the XLT, LARIAT and Flash™ -- are the only models that meet the latest battery sourcing requirements and qualify for the full $7,500 federal tax credit.1
Who Qualifies for the Federal EV Tax Credit?
Not every vehicle or buyer will be eligible for the federal credit. Here are the key requirements to keep in mind:
- You must buy the vehicle for your own use, not for resale.
- It must be used primarily in the U.S.
- Your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) may not exceed:
- $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
- $225,000 for heads of households
- $150,000 for all other filers
- Qualifying vehicles must:
- Have a battery capacity of at least 7 kilowatt hours.
- Have a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 14,000 pounds.
- Be made by a qualified manufacturer.
- The vehicle must undergo final assembly in North America.
- The vehicle's manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) can't exceed $80,000 for vans, sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks or $55,000 for other vehicles.
Does New Jersey Offer an EV Tax Credit?
In addition to the federal tax credit, New Jersey residents can benefit from the state's Charge Up New Jersey program. This rebate initiative provides up to $4,250 toward the purchase or lease of a qualifying EV and a home charger. Even better, these rebates can be combined with the federal EV tax credit until the federal incentive expires.
